HUE
hue city - ancient imperial capital of vietnam.
had a free day for myself before work sets in the next day. hue is small enuff to explore by foot. so i wandered the streets while the the cyclo riders call out 'kinochiwaaa! xich-lo! 1 hour 1 dollar! '. deja vu. feels like hanoi in 1999.
funny little place. and i don't really know what else people really do hue, other than live. i hope they go to the nice beaches nearby, hike in the central highlands, cycle to and around the royal tombs or something. not a very pretty city though a few nice mental pictures as i walked along.

a house. i was on the steps of st. xavier church, resting in the shade when i saw it.

the red tree! one of those things i thought i would only see in the movies!

... an art gallery ...
further on...
i found the chinese fukian clan association. a few of them around the area, including a teochew one. used to be assembly hall for the overseas settlers but now mostly ornamental and tourist attractions.
a family stays inside and takes care of the compound.

inside the clan building, the ancestral altar...

an old man hobbling outside the hospital.
the poor man had his left leg wrapped with an old plastic bag to prevent foreign particles from getting into the wound.

on the trang thien bridge.. stopped to take a picure.

i turned around and saw ...
... the sunset!

... hungry.. so i stopped for food at the mandarin cafe...

... after which i took a slow walk back to the hotel...

... dum dilly dum...

... dilly dum...

... dilly dilly dum...

The Citadel
the nguyen dynasty emperors wanted this to be like the forbidden city in beijing.
but what we see today are mostly ruins, since much of the gates and buildings were destroyed during the wars

vietnam's tallest flagpole.
