08.10.01 NEWS HEADLINES: >U.S. STRIKES BACK >BUSH GETS BLAIR'S HELP >TALEBAN TARGETS HIT >FOOD AID FOR AFGHANS >STRIKES NOT ANTI-ISLAM >OSAMA WARNS AMERICA ---------------------------------------------------- O! Jerusalem. Bought the book for 6 pounds from a dingy second-hand bookshop at Falmouth, Cornwall. Iit was a work by one of my fave authors. Dominque Lapierre: *City of Joy* *Beyond Love* *Freedom at Midnight* 26 pages into the book. Partition of Palestine: "Feeling the intense pressures of the most numerous and most influential Jewish community in the world, America's lawmakers had let burst a flood tide of petitions, declarations and statements in favor of partition and the unrestricted immigration of displaced Jews into Palestine. It was an ironic comment, however, on the hypocritical aspects of America's Palestine policy that while the General Assembly's debate was evoking the misery of hundreds of thousands of displaced persons, the US Congresss was refusing to allow its own refugee relief bill out of committee... ...[D]uring the first 8 months of 1946 the same American legislators who were so freely urging a quarter of a million Jewish immigrants on Palestine's 1.2million Arabs had allowed exactly 4767 refugess, barely the number aboard the illegal Palestine immigrant ship the Exodus, onto America's promised shores." I must add that Dominique Lapierre and co-author Larry Collins devoted almost 4 yrs into writing this book : 150 000 miles travelled across the Middle East, Europe and America, 2000 interviews, 6000 pgs of documentation, collaboration of 20 investigators and the study of 1/2 ton of secret documents.
Online, Vincent gives me a tree.
